Over the years, many of our customers have expressed the concern that truly classically started horses are altogether too rare.

 

The Pennsylvania Riding Academy has begun to concentrate on producing young correct horses for sale. We will offer several young horses throughout the year, and we would ask interested people to check the website regularly, but also to email or call, since some horses may not be ready for the website, but might be available shortly. In some cases, horses can be specifically prepared for buyers.

 

These horses are either bred here at our farm or are selected as prospects. All prospects are rigorously selected for disposition and trainability first, then for athletic potential. They have undergone a thorough medical exam, including x-rays.

 

The education of these horses has not been relegated to novice riders or working students, nor hurriedly prepared for auction, but the opposite. They are started by the most experienced FEI riders and are either ridden by Paul Belasik or are directly supervised by him in daily practices.

 

Our aim is to produce a horse capable of providing a classical riding experience.
2012 SALES Preview
 
Catalina is a 8 year old, 15.3hh purebred Andalusian mare. Not a lot had been done with this mare, but she is now in full training, after spending her younger years hacking and producing a foal. She has wonderful natural cadence and is light and sensitive without being spooky. This is an opportunity to get a purebred mare at a very reasonable price. Vetted with radiographs. $15-25K price range.
Pagano is a 5 year old half-Andalusian gelding, 15.3hh tall and a striking golden buckskin color. He is a beautiful mover with an inquisitive personality and very high potential. Shows particular talent for collection. Vetted with radiographs. $35-45K price range.
Vistosa is a 6 year old half-Andalusian mare, 15.3hh, a very beautiful mare with comfortable gaits and expressive movement. A striking horse with a confident personality. $15-25K price range.

"Dolce" is a 9 year old, 15.3hh Westfalen gelding with a bright future as an FEI horse. Ready to show Intermediaire 1, schooling one-tempis. Easy straight changes, very elegant mover with excellent extensions. Good work ethic, light in bridle and forward. Great size for a smaller rider, would be a wonderful Young Rider horse or for serious amateur looking to compete in the small tour classes, and possibly beyond. Poema is a wonderful elegant prospect, coming 4 years old, 16.1+hh. We trained her full sister Corsana for almost 2 years and she was a complete joy, never spooked or shied, a fast learner. By the time she was sold she was schooling tempi changes and beautiful extensions, none of which was difficult or stressful for her. Poema has an arresting presence, great freedom in the shoulder which will translate into incredible movement as she gets stronger. She has a very sweet disposition, a very good mind and an excellent work ethic. This is a unique opportunity to get a talented prospect of limitless potential for a very reasonable price. Many people use the term schoolmaster but Greta has taught even low level timid riders, yet on a given weekend she competed at FEI through Grand Prix, earning such titles as Region 1 Intermediaire I Reserve Champion and Barbara Silverman MFS Challenge FEI Reserve Champion. At 11 yrs old she is just coming into her prime. Greta is one of the soundest horses we have ever had with a clean medical history and clean xrays. She is bombproof yet capable of striking extensions that are easy to sit to. She does easy flying changes through one-tempis. At 16hh she is not intimidating. Very easy keeper, not mareish. A great amateurs horse capable of competing or teaching someone about high school. $150K.

2008 17hh Andalusian/Hanoverian gelding by Paul Belasik's well-known Andalusian stallion Excelso. Excel is noted for passing on his wonderful, solid disposition and trainability. Escalador's dam is a Main Studbook Hanoverian mare with stunning floating movement.

 

Escalador embodies the best of both worlds: he has the steadfast temperament and superb balance of the Andalusian, with the gorgeous movement of his warmblood dam. He is fun to ride with an excellent work ethic and is like a pet on the ground, very people-oriented, and has the composure of a much older horse: no spook/shy, buck, rear, bolt, etc.

 

This would be an exceptional horse for an amateur or professional wanting a serious competition prospect with a no-nonsense attitude and unlimited talent. Excelso also passes on to his offspring a remarkable talent for flying changes; Escalador has already demonstrated on several occasions that changes will be easy for him. Escalador has been slowly and correctly started and is currently schooling 1st level work and just started shoulder-in. $40K.
 

Espera is a 3 year old purebred Andalusian mare, very beautiful, extremely typey; she looks like a model horse. Espera is by Excelso out of a purebred mare that carries the blood of the legendary Leviton, whose offspring includes Evento and Invasor. Espera is a very smart horse with lovely gaits and is currently 15.2hh. She is a straight mover with a great temperament, fun to train as you simply love to look at her in work. She is a lighter type, but not slender or weak. A classic Spanish mare. Walk, trot, cantering under saddle, started leg yields.

If ever a horse has the pedigree to perform, this grey 16.1hh gelding does. He is by Excelso, out of Galatea, a Hanoverian cross mare set to make her Grand Prix debut in 2011, and who has won numerous accolades and championships in the show ring from lower levels through Intermediaire 1, including NEDA's Intermediaire 1 Year End Championship. Norte has beautiful suspension in his trot and very good balance in all his gaits. He shows natural flying changes on the longeline. He will probably mature around 16.3hh, but he is not a thick heavy type, but sensitive and smart. He is still a bit gawky and leggy, but he will mature into an exquisite horse with very impressive movement. Norte is a one of a kind horse that will be noticed wherever he goes.

Corsana is a coming 4 year old Andalusian/Thoroughbred mare with the best disposition. She is by Excelso (please see breeding page for more information about Excelso), out of a Thoroughbred mare we leased for several years because we were so impressed by her foals. Corsana is an elegant type, very nice mover with beautiful extensions, not only flashy up front, but equally correct behind and through the back. She is a sweet and friendly mare, not mareish at all, is extremely intelligent with a wonderful work ethic. She has the maturity of a much older horse; never spooks or shies, works well inside or out. Corsana knows all the lateral exercises in the trot and canter, solid counter-canter and has begun working on flying changes. This horse has unlimited potential.

 

 

Brilliant bay purebred Iberian gelding; 3/4 Andalusian, 1/4 Lusitano. 15.2hh, 4 years old. Tremendous presence, wonderful alive personality, yet no problems: no bucking, shying, bolting or rearing. Eclipse is just beginning to find his stride, he will be a remarkable mover. Presently walks, trots and canters, beginning lateral work and counter-canter. Whenever he comes out to work, people cannot takes their eyes off of him, like a piece of moving Renaissance sculpture. This is a very athletic horse with natural gracefulness and unlimited potential for collection. Vetted w/xrays.

 

Coming 3 year old 16.3hh half Andalusian gelding by Excelso out of a Main Stud book Hanoverian mare. He is sensitive, but very sensible. Escarpa is a beautiful horse, a powerful mover, stunning to watch, extremely well balanced for a big horse. With a very good walk and buoyant canter, he gathers himself easily and changes easily and naturally when free. His trot is elastic and expressive, with natural cadence and extension. He has been started in his formal training. 

Coming 5 year old purebred Andalusian gelding. Magnificent horse, 16.3hh, with the best disposition. He has been in training for the last 2 years and knows all lateral work, has a nice extension and has started on flying changes. Very solid horse, no shying or misbehaviour. Comfortable gaits with great presence. Exarca is a stunning horse with a wonderful personality. Recent clean xrays, never lame.
 
 
   
"Wild" is a 15.1hh 9 yr old Lipizzaner gelding. Although this horse is as safe and fun to ride as a schoolmaster, it is an understatement because he is nowhere near the end of his potential. Schooling Prix St. Georges, but offers one-tempis, nice extensions, and half steps. Wild is a very sweet horse with a one-of-kind mind. Absolutely sound with clean xrays. A rare opportunity, he is pure enjoyment to train. 

At 17.2hh, this 4 year old gelding by Excelso out of a Thoroughbred mare, is an impressive, stately horse. He is a big mover, but is not a heavy-bodied cold-blooded type of horse; he is light in the bridle and has comfortable gaits. Lieto is reminiscent of a master's horse in fox hunts: a big, majestic grey looming above the field's horses. Fun, playful personality, this is the perfect horse for someone who needs a large horse with a good mind and athletic ability. Lieto has three good gaits, and is starting lateral work and counter canter.
