EXCELSO
1990 16hh grey IALHA Andalusian Stallion
by Catherino out of Windhill Amistosa (Lisonjerio II)

Excelso has been owned and trained by Paul Belasik since he was three months old. He has been a representative of classic equestrian art; as an example of traditional correct fundamentals and form, he has been featured in books and film, most notably Belasik’s own Dressage for the 21st Century and The Lost Quixotes. On a daily basis his practices are seen by visitors and students of the Pennsylvania Riding Academy.

Grand Prix Musical Freestyle

Dressage at Devon 2008

Andrea Velas has guided Excelso throughout his FEI career, and together they continue to successfully compete at large East Coast shows, including international CDIs such as Raleigh (North Carolina) and Dressage at Devon (Pennsylvania). To date, this pair has won 16 Grand Prix, earned USDF/IALHA Grand Prix/Grand Prix Musical Freestyle Championship honors three times, with numerous top three placings in warmblood-dominated classes under many ‘S’, ‘I’, and ‘O’ level judges.

Truly classical with superior movement and extension, tremendous balance, and exceptional disposition and soundness: after over a decade of breeding and performing, he has no blemishes. He is so quiet and reliable that children can ride him, and consistently passes these traits on to his offspring. Excelso has proven himself as a superior sire with all breeds of mares, and has never produced a horse under 16 hands. He consistently passes on his impeccable disposition.

Excelso will stand publicly for a few select outside mares each year.
